Why can a newborn heart heal after injury, while an adult human heart cannot?
Our lab studies this remarkable difference to uncover the fundamental biology that makes heart regeneration possible. We ask how neonatal heart cells know when and how to regenerate, how different cells work together to rebuild damaged tissue, and why these abilities disappear as the heart matures.
By understanding nature’s own strategies for regeneration, we hope to discover new ways to help damaged human hearts heal.
